Discreet Orthodontics: How Clear Aligners Work

Step 1: Your Consultation

Clear braces involve a series of steps that start with an in-office consultation with the dentist. This consultation helps us determine whether clear aligners suit you and if the system will correct your orthodontic issues. We also discuss how long you’ll be in therapy and whether you’ll need pretreatments before starting clear aligner therapy.

Step 2: Your Impressions

Your dentist takes impressions of your teeth to make your aligners. After we make your aligners, you come into our dental office to pick them up and start treatment.

Step 3: Your Treatment

We provide a schedule that lets you know how often you should change your aligners and move on to the next set in the sequence.

Typically, patients change their aligners every two weeks. Each set of aligners is slightly different, allowing the system to move your teeth into new and more desirable positions slowly. As the weeks pass, your smile changes for the better.

Step 4: Your Retainer

After treatment, your Boardman or Columbiana dentist will provide a custom retainer. These oral appliances are worn at night to prevent your teeth from slipping back into their previous positions. Retainers maintain your new, beautiful smile.

Why Choose Clear Aligners?

Compared to traditional bracket braces, clear aligners are comfortable and discreet. Because they are made of clear plastic, many people may not even notice you’re wearing them.

Clear aligners are also removable for eating, drinking, and oral hygiene sessions, so you’ll not have to endure eating restrictions.

Besides the aesthetic benefits of clear aligners, you might appreciate the oral health advantages that come with an aligned bite:

  • Less wear and tear on teeth for fewer cavities and complications
  • Better jaw joint support for painless chewing and yawning
  • More productive brushing and flossing for better long-term oral health
