Dental Extractions

Having a dental extraction is not ideal, but sometimes necessary to protect your oral health. We only recommend a dental extraction as a last resort because it is typically better for your wallet and your long-term oral health if we can save your natural tooth.

Comfortable Dentistry

We know that one of the main concerns patients have when it comes to dental extractions is that they are afraid the treatment will hurt. We want you to feel confident in the care you receive at DeChellis & Stonestreet Dentistry.

We take every precaution to ensure that your treatment is comfortable. Our dentists have experience providing gentle care and sincerely want you to have an exceptional experience at every appointment.

We will always make sure you are numb before beginning any treatment. Most patients do not feel their procedure and are surprised at how quickly they heal!

Reasons for Dental Extractions

You may need to have a tooth extracted for a number of reasons.

Here are some main reasons why we remove teeth:

  • Damage from trauma
  • Accidents
  • Severe infection
  • Problematic wisdom teeth
  • Overcrowding
  • Cracked or split teeth
  • Deep decay

If you are experiencing tooth pain and want to know if you need a dental extraction, we can help! Just give us a call and we will evaluate your tooth and give you options so you can feel comfortable again.

Post-Extraction Care

When we remove a tooth, we always schedule a follow-up appointment to ensure that you are healing properly. It is a good idea to avoid drinking from a straw and smoking following a tooth extraction. Sucking can dislodge the healing tissue from your surgical site and cause painful dry socket, as well as slow down your healing.

We will go over how to keep the area clean so you can heal quickly and comfortably.

Tooth-Replacement Options

In most cases, we will recommend that you decide on a way to replace your missing tooth. Leaving a gap in your smile can cause your teeth to shift and may negatively affect your bite and the health of surrounding and opposing teeth.

We do not recommend replacing wisdom teeth that have been extracted because one of the main reasons for removing them is that there was not enough room there to begin with!

For other cases, we offer:

  • Dental implants
  • Fixed dental bridges
  • Implant-supported bridges
  • Dentures
  • Partial dentures
  • Implant-retained dentures

One of our experienced dentists will explain the pros and cons of each treatment option with you so you can make a decision that makes the most sense for your health and lifestyle!

Frequently Asked Questions

We are using the most modern anesthetics available to numb the entire area where we are working so you do not feel any pain. This is far superior to the old Novocaine. Our doctors take their time making sure you are comfortable during each step of the procedure. If you begin to feel anything we will stop the procedure immediately until you are comfortable.

There are many reasons a tooth may need to be extracted. The most common need for an extraction comes from a tooth which is infected or broken beyond the point of fixing. However, some other reasons for extracting a tooth or teeth include impacted wisdom teeth, traumatic injury, loose teeth from gum disease, and retained primary teeth (baby teeth) which did not fall out.

Testimonial

Fantastic "Family" Care

Sally, Connie, Fran, and Dr. Tom made me feel like a member of their family, NOT JUST the next patient. They were all concerned about my dental care and provided assurance through out the appointment. I have a life-time of various dental work accomplished. This week ( 2 visits) I had both my six-month cleaning, annual x-rays and a small tooth extracted. I was treated like I was the only one in their care. While my tooth gave Dr. Tom a challenge, he worked at it with a very high level of professional and personal care. I AM VERY PLEASED WITH MY "DENTAL FAMILY" AND WITHOUT HESITATION RECOMMEND THAT YOU CONSULT WITH THEM regarding your future dental care.
