Reasons for Dental Extractions
You may need to have a tooth extracted for a number of reasons.
Here are some main reasons why we remove teeth:
- Damage from trauma
- Accidents
- Severe infection
- Problematic wisdom teeth
- Overcrowding
- Cracked or split teeth
- Deep decay
If you are experiencing tooth pain and want to know if you need a dental extraction, we can help! Just give us a call and we will evaluate your tooth and give you options so you can feel comfortable again.
Post-Extraction Care
When we remove a tooth, we always schedule a follow-up appointment to ensure that you are healing properly. It is a good idea to avoid drinking from a straw and smoking following a tooth extraction. Sucking can dislodge the healing tissue from your surgical site and cause painful dry socket, as well as slow down your healing.
We will go over how to keep the area clean so you can heal quickly and comfortably.
Tooth-Replacement Options
In most cases, we will recommend that you decide on a way to replace your missing tooth. Leaving a gap in your smile can cause your teeth to shift and may negatively affect your bite and the health of surrounding and opposing teeth.
We do not recommend replacing wisdom teeth that have been extracted because one of the main reasons for removing them is that there was not enough room there to begin with!
For other cases, we offer:
- Dental implants
- Fixed dental bridges
- Implant-supported bridges
- Dentures
- Partial dentures
- Implant-retained dentures
One of our experienced dentists will explain the pros and cons of each treatment option with you so you can make a decision that makes the most sense for your health and lifestyle!
