Root Canal Treatment

There are many things that may cause a tooth to need a root canal. Some of the more common causes include teeth that are badly broken down, infected or abscessed teeth, teeth with deep fillings or crowns, teeth that were bumped or knocked out from trauma, cracked teeth, and cysts around teeth.

Root canals are performed by numbing the tooth very well, making a small opening in the top of the tooth, and cleaning out the infected nerve inside of the tooth. The root stays in place and a hollow tube or “canal” is left in the tooth at the end which is then filled with an inert filling material.

No! You will be numb during your root canal so it does not hurt. Many times patients will say the tooth feels instantly better after the procedure once the pressure is relieved.
